But at the end of the day its down to the person that wants to buy the card if they want to go for Nvidia or ATI. It can sometime mean that you don't get the best card but as long as you are happy with what it does so be it.

Like all industries sometime the best product is not for you or you have had a bad experiences with that brand. i.e. I will never buy a Sony product again. I have had both a Sony TV which went wrong 4 times in is warrantee period and a VRC that started to smoke in the first few weeks (I am loving Toshiba products they seem to last for years). The same can be said with NIVIDA/ATI etc. I know Xion X2 had issues with the 8800GTX and that I guess put him off them. That does not say he wont get the 9XXX series if they are released. But then again ATI may bring out a better card them like they did with the 9700 (now that was a kick ass card).

I for one am loving Nvidia Products at this time and not had problems with them.

Between the 2900xt and the 8800GTX you would want the 8800gtx.

But this hole saying cards suck and dismissing a card as complete crap is what’s misleading to people. I usually don’t bother to argue here, everyone’s on this site because of the brand they currently own. I got my 2900xt because I wanted to try something different and it was in my price range at the time. I love it and wouldn’t trade it for an 8800640. It’s pointless to say anything more.

Comparatively, the 2900XT is like some sad joke.

You won't hear the 2900XT is a comparable product to a 8800GTX from anyone but a 2900XT owner is more like it. Check out all the reviews on the net if you don't believe me.

The OpenGL results usually show the 2900XT competing with the GTX. D3D is gets moped pretty well. My GTS is running 648 / 2000 so at 1280x1024 I get more 3dmarks and FPS than I did with my stock GTX...and it was quite abit less $$$. I have an NEC 19" GX2 90 and prefer 1280x1024, I cannot stand widescreen resolutions @ 60Hz - instant headache, I also have a 22" samsung but use that on my surfing machine.

I'm running my GTS OC'd and a 2900XT OC'd, the 2900XT keeps up with the OCd GTS in OpenGL just fine - Quake4, Prey. For someone that claims to have read the reviews you aren't comprehending what you are reading.

In OpenGL the 2900XT does compete with the GTX.

Now, more importantly why is the 2900XT so strong in OpenGL that it can compete with a GTX but so weak with AA on in D3D? Drivers? Architecture?
That should've been the question reviewers were asking early on ...and now.

You don't even comprehend your own post, let alone the reviews.

We're not talking about GTSs here, we're talking 8800GTX.

8800GTXs, as referred to in the OP, beat 2900XTs in everything- OpenGL, D3d, and even cpu utilization on video playback. They're also quieter,cooler, and use less power.

Thats not true at all. There are some titles out there that the 2900XT compares favorably to the 8800GTX in.

Right, and I never said the 2900XT was on par with those. I just get slightly annoyed when guys like Rollo get so damn sensitive that they can't let a single positive comment about ATi fly without dumping on it. I even edited/proofread my previous post just to make sure I wasn't saying anything that would tick off any Nvidia owners, and he still comes back with his garb.

Then again, I guess it's easy to resort to that kind of behavior when someone else is paying your bills for you.

I would go with the 8800GTX if it is between them cards ,but the 2900XT is no as bad as some people make it out to be .

That's because in this matchup there's only black or white. Only ATi employees should get 2900s over GTXs - it's not even an close decision.

I've built 2 systems for people so far where the buyer demanded the 2900xt. Although I personally prefer nvidia, it pretty much seemed just like every other high-end piece of hardware..... turn off fraps and you can't tell what card it is that's in the system.

Heh- Madison folk aren't really known for the sound logic, are they?

The trolley they want to build....the General Vang Pow controversy....the idea to spend millions on automated trash cans.....our "sister city" in the Middle East.....assinine zoning laws that force developers to put apartment complexes in every new neighborhood.....

Around here, I'm suprised they didn't demand Macs!

Anyway, I can assure you I'd notice the difference if you put a 2900 in my box, I'd know the difference.
