I Lie about MPG
|
I switched cases last night and went to a mid tower while I am setting up the WC system in my Xclio.
As I was hacking away at my case I noticed that my CPU was running idle @14*c (stock volt and clock) and took a look up at my clock/thermometer and it was reading 16*c (ambient). Can this be right? in further investigation both actual cores are running at ambient but th overall CPU temp was lower. I use Everest Ultimate for my Temp monitoring.

Nope. There is no way to get the CPU below ambient when on just air. Even watercooling can't do that. You would need some sort of refrigeration or TEC to do that. My guess is that the temp sensors aren't reporting the correct values. On my Q6600 Everest tells me that the CPU idles at 18C, but it says that each of the cores is around 40C. I find it really hard to believe that the CPU would be running at ambient. It's most likely at least a few degrees above it.
