Exclamation Driver randomly swaps odd and even pixels on 3840x2160 screen

We are using some 8600GT and 8600GTS cards on a very high resolution
screen, 3840x2160. This is so big that we have to use TwinView of course:

(II) NVIDIA(1): Setting mode "1920x2160,1920x2160"

Also these individual resolutions are big enough to need to use both links
of both DVI cables.

Here is our problem. On the first "Screen", i.e. the left half of the screen,
the latest driver 100.14.11 randomly swaps odd and even pixels, or maybe
link1 and link2 on the DVI when you start up X. Sometimes everything
looks fine, sometimes the left looks like crap because of swapped pixels.
Switching between X and a console with CTRL-ALT-F1, CTRL-ALT-F7,
sometimes randomly fixes/****s up the left part of the screen.

This never happens on the second DVI output, only the first one. It may
happen after a cold boot of the system so it's not only when you switch
to console manually. It happens with two different cards from two
manufacturers, Sparkle 8600GT and Leadtek Winfast 8600GTS.

It's not the screens fault, we've tried several and we've never had the
problem before with a 7950GT cards and the older 9755 driver.

I'm attaching the nvidia-bug-report.log, and there is another card
and screen connected, but they never exhibit these problems.

Do you have any idea why this happens? Should I try an older
driver? Is there any option I can try? Has it happened to anyone
else?

We are putting these systems to production use and we can't
have keyboards put into them, so manually switching to console
is not really an option.

This is a known driver bug which should be resolved in a future release. In our testing, restarting X will usually resolve the issue (until a future X (re)start).

thanks,
Lonni

Is it a know old bug or a new one? I.e. is there an old version I can downgrade to?

I'm afraid that this bug doesn't currently have a workaround for your GPU, other than to restart X.

Is there any way at all to automatically detect if the odd and even pixels have been swapped? I've looked for changes caused by switching to the terminal and then back to X in files in /var/log/ and /proc/drivers/nvidia without finding anything that can be used.
