Default Sata_nv issues

I have 4 Seagate SATA disks that are recognized under Fedora 5 using kernel kernel-2.6.20-1.2320.fc5.

After upgrading a fileserver to FC7, I ran into problems..

When I use a newer kernel, like kernel-2.6.22.2-42.fc6 or kernel-2.6.22.1-41.fc7, some of the drives aren't recognized.

I noticed that the sata_nv is the same between kernel-2.6.22.2-42.fc6 and kernel-2.6.22.1-41.fc7, and different in the FC5 kernel, kernel-2.6.20-1.2320.fc5.

Right now, I am using the FC5 kernel on a FC7 system.

Motherboard is a h8dce http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/moth...orce/H8DCE.cfm

Default Re: Sata_nv issues

Just to add:
Below are different versions of the sata_nv module. I got one more kernel to work besides the FC5 2.6.20-1.2320 kernel and that is 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6 kernel. You will notice that both of the working sata_nv is different from the kernels that has the sata_nv that fails to recongnize all my sata drives.

WORKS: sata_nv version 3.2
[root@alcor kdb]# ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2933.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 39024 2007-03-19 12:02 /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2933.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
[root@alcor kdb]# ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2320.fc5/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 39424 2007-06-12 21:13 /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2320.fc5/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko

DOESN'T WORK: sata_nv version 3.4
[root@alcor kdb]# ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.22.1-41.fc7/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 39656 2007-07-27 18:58 /lib/modules/2.6.22.1-41.fc7/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
[root@alcor kdb]# ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.22.1-32.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 39656 2007-08-01 14:50 /lib/modules/2.6.22.1-32.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
[root@alcor kdb]# ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.22.2-42.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko
-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 39656 2007-08-15 12:19 /lib/modules/2.6.22.2-42.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_nv.ko

A little more investigating:

Aug 30 14:08:03 alcor kernel: sata_nv 0000:80:08.0: Using ADMA mode
Aug 30 14:08:03 alcor kernel: PCI: Unable to reserve mem region #6:1000@dfefd000 for device 0000:80:08.0
Aug 30 14:08:03 alcor kernel: ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:80:08.0 disabled
Aug 30 14:08:03 alcor kernel: sata_nv: probe of 0000:80:08.0 failed with error -16

This is a system with 8 sata devices..and it is the 5th hard drive that isn't being recognize...the first sata_nv controls the first 4 hard drives...the second sata_nv is failing.

That looks like a BIOS or kernel bug. You should verify that you're using the latest BIOS, and if so, report this problem to the Fedora folks.
