Post Lock-up: 8800GTS + 100.14.19 + Beryl + Maya

First, thanks for the new 100.14.19 drivers -- they fixed the only day-to-day problem I had, which was lock-ups when switching to text mode on logout.

I haven't been able to get Maya to work reliably with Beryl, ever. I've tried all previous driver version that support the 8800, and many many various xorg.conf options.

In my current configuration, Beryl works rock-solid with everything I throw at it, including some rather demanding OpenGL 2.0 applications I'm working on. Also, without using Beryl, Maya (version 8.5) is quite stable.

However, Beryl + Maya has problems. I'll launch Maya, and it will display an empty scene correctly, but as soon as I try to resize the window to a larger size, first the scene window will display only in a portion of the window (as though a render surface allocation failed), then, if I continue resizing, my machine will hard lock-up. Also, opening new windows in Maya (eg, Hypershade) will not display correctly and cause lock-ups.

When it hard locks, I can't ssh in or terminate the xserver or anything.

Attached is a bug report from immediately before it hard locks, right after a resize event in Maya failed.

Any advice or info is much appreciated!

Default Re: Lock-up: 8800GTS + 100.14.19 + Beryl + Maya

Does anyone have any ideas about this? Any configuration tweaks I can try? Or, has anyone gotten Maya to work with a compositing window manager + NVIDIA product?

I found this part of the bug report rather interesting:
