Default Quadro FX 3500 & Dell 3007WFP - artifacts and color problems

Hi

I'm running x86_64, NVIDIA driver version 100.14.19.

According to the "NVIDIA X Server Settings" widget, the resolution is 2560x1600.

The resolution is fine, but the colors aren't. Its like I'm running in 16 colors, or worse. For example, the text box for typing this message is an aqua blue, with vertical streaks. When i move the cursor, it show a white background just behind the cursor (ie instead of the aqua blue), and another white blotch 2 cm to the right. (Just to be clear, this problem isn't limited to Firefox - the blue stuff shows up on my ubuntu desktop, within the "NVIDIA X Server Settings" widget, etc).

The color depth is currently 32bpp (according to the widget) - xorg.conf sets depth to 24. I've tried changing this to 16, but it doesn't fix the problem.

Please let me know what further info is necessary to help diagnose the problem.

thanks!

Jason

I've sent nvidia-bug-report.log to the linux-bugs email address, along with a photo of what is happening. I've also verified that the video card / screen work properly under Vista.

I tried the nv driver - it gives the same artifact/color problems.

cheers

Thumbs up Re: Quadro FX 3500 & Dell 3007WFP - artifacts and color problems

Hmmm ... the problem has now vanished. The display now looks great.

What changed?

Well, I disconnected the power, attached a SATA drive containing Vista Business, booted Vista, changed the resolution to 2560 x 1600 (which looked good), shutdown Vista, turned off the power, removed the drive containing Vista, booted back into Ubuntu, and voila!

I have no idea whether the cold reboot or Vista talking to the 3500 did the trick, but there you have it. Perhaps one of the Nvidia guys might care to speculate.

Fwiw, this is a Dell Precision Workstation 490, running Ubuntu (Feisty).

cheers

You'll need to attach two bug reports here (one for the good, one for the bad case).

Done, and sent via email. I did a diff on the 2 reports. Nothing leapt out at me. In the second one, Depth is commented out in xorg.conf, but when i first did that, the problem persisted. And, having just reinstated those lines to check that everything still works - it does.

I don't see any significant differences between the good & bad bug reports.

Nor did I. But the fact remains that one represents the broken case, and the other the working case. Is there any part of the card's state which isn't reported in the log file?

I'm not sure what you mean by the "card's state".

Does the problem still reproduce, or has it since been resolved?

Please see post #4 above. Problem has not re-occurred.
Why it occurred in the first place, or why those steps seemed to fix it, remain a mystery.
