Default AMD64 X2 i686 nvidia 100.14.19 unstable

I have kernel 2.6.22 i686 on an AMD 64 X2, with this card:
Model: GeForce 7300 GS

nvidia 100.14.19 crashes badly and quickly. For example, simply running gnome screensavers for a few minutes and bang. It also causes freezes simply web browsing.
I went back to 100.14.09 and it is very stable, although I had to downgrade my xserver before I could install this older driver. I tried 100.14.11, but it was also unstable.

I just wonder if someone has some tips because I use quite a common kernel and quite common hardware.

I reported a bug, made some suggested changes to various kernel parameters, but nothing helped, yet for me the 100.14.19 is useless.

I attach log of the current stable configuration.

I've just seen this thread which appears to be relevant to my situation.
