Unhappy 100.14.19 Hibernate still not working - is there any hope ?

I've just tested 100.14.19 and hibernation still not works - in the meaning
that with loaded X and :
Code:
echo -n "disk" > /sys/power/state
system goes to hibernation well but after wakeup become dead
when switching back to X11.
So NVIDIA please tell us - will hibernation will be supported ever ??

Attached bugreport.

aren't you glad to have a performant 3D driver? if you're on a notebook just use the nv driver and have your hibernate work (i guess, i don't use hibernate)
..stop complaining man, they're doing a fine job!

Well I can't agree with you - the reason is simple - while other OS'es
like Win can have all in one - in the meaning of acceleration, hibernation and even pure
video - you want me to jumping happy just because acceleration works ?
I admit they work and appreciate that , but this doesn't make me keep quiet
about things that are important to me and don't work from a long time.

If you don't use hibernation than please don't reply in this thread as long as you don't have something important to say.
And the question was addressed to NVIDIA and I hope they will answer something meaningful.

I never see my agp card(nvidia 6200 agp)
suspend correctly with nvidia driver,
the new pci-e(7100 gs) works fine
suspend perfect(only suspend to disk
and ONLY with suspend2)

see, that already sounds better, i'm not against people speaking up (otherwise i wouldn't be in opensource), just do it in a constructive fashion (which i did not sense in your previous tone)

As has been stated before, mileage with Power Management on Linux will vary greatly between different configurations (both hardware and software), many factors other than the NVIDIA graphics driver may contribute to the overall result. While there may be outstanding NVIDIA graphics driver bugs interfering with reliable suspend/resume operation, there also are kernel and other driver bugs that cause problems (e.g. some SATA drivers, etc.). If your system does not suspend/resume reliably, please try different distributions/kernels and check if you can narrow the problem down.

Talking Re: 100.14.19 Hibernate Still not working

@ZANDER - thanks for suggestions. Yet before you replayed I spent yesterday
evening trying to figure out what is wrong. And luckly I found solution.
Here is how I did it.
"Don't be alarmed. What you are about to see is considered safe."
The starting point was post by meskalamdug saying that hibernation and his AGP card never worked, while PCI-E working out of the box.
I went then to nvidia README and I found there that it may be an issue with AGPGART. To turn it off I passed the :
Code:
agp=off
to the kernel in Grub
and also added:
Code:
Option "NvAGP" "1"
to the xorg.conf.
I'm on Debian box so I didn't wanted to patch the kernel with swsusp2 just to
let me know that it's still now working.
Instead of this I used my distro stock kernel, and normal kernel suspend:
Code:
echo -n "disk" > /sys/power/state
I holded out my breath during resume, but YES,YES,YES it works !!!

So NVIDIA .
Thank you nvidia guys - it's working like a charm now.
The only question what left behind this is why:
Quote:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Disabled

AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput
of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file
for additional information on this problem.
shows AGP OFF while
Quote:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep AGP
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "NvAGP" "1"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Use of NVIDIA internal AGP requested
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep GART
(II) NVIDIA(0): Initialized GART.
gives that status that nvidia AGP was initialized.

Which information is right ?

The X driver reported that use of the builtin AGP GART driver was requested (i.e. Option "NvAGP" "1"), but initialization failed (I'd have to see a complete log file to say why, bug I suspect NvAGP does not support your chipset). The 'Initialized GART' message is not referring to the AGP GART. The recommended way to disable AGP support is to use Option "NvAGP" "0"; please also see http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8...hapter-22.html.

Yes - for disabling AGP it's true it should be zero.
But I didn't wanted to disable it - I just wanted to use NvAGP driver instead
of Kernel one.
And my chipset is NForce2 which should be supported according to :
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8...hapter-12.html

So far with current setting I can't see any performance drop - but further tests are
maybe necessary.

So what are the correct steps to use NvAGP driver instead of kernel ?
And from NVIDIA knowledge using like this settings will lead to performace drop ?

Lightbulb Re: 100.14.19 Hibernate Still not working

Ok a step forward:
1) With kernel modules loaded:
- agpgart
- nvidia-agp
and with Option "NvAGP" "1" set in xorg.conf:
a) hibernation does work perfectly
b) card is in pci mode as showes cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
c) the performance drop vary from 10% in glxgears to 600% or even more
in mesa demos - especially during huge amount of data transfered to card
& back. Forget about compiz - just stutter slide show
2) With kernel module "nvidia-agp" blacklisted and
with Option "NvAGP" "1" set in xorg.conf:
Code:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: NVIDIA
AGP Rate: 8x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Enabled
a) hibernations does not work (hang up during resume)
b) no performance drop

So the question I would like to ask NVidia Developers
is why is that ?
It seems that even with just only NVIDIA AGP driver is used it still fails to
resume while the card is in PCI mode everything is perfect ?
Any ideas where the problem lies ? Kernel or NVidia bug ?

Exclamation Re: 100.14.19 Hibernate Still not working

Bump up.
What is very strange that before suspend2disk (using uswsusp)
the AGP is on:
Code:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 8x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Enabled
while after resume being in VT1 not switching to X what will cause freeze
the same command show AGP disabled !!!:
Code:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Disabled
Maybe this is the reason why system freezes switching to X's ?
And why is that after resume the AGP is off ?
Any comments NVIDIA ?
