General problem description:
with a startx from a text login the system puts a bunch of ascii characters on my screen and I have to reboot the system to get back. my o my...i had the exact same problem...and it sux...you can look around the fourms and see my thread called my black screen fix, and see if you wanna try a couple of steps that i took..i am too lazy to look for it and link it but thats all i can tell ya.
