Default Driver issue with more than 3GB of RAM?

I've installed the lastest nvidia drivers using Envy and also by enabling the restricted drivers under Ubuntu 7.10 (x86_64). For both cases the drivers worked great with 2GB of RAM, but when I upgraded to 4GB the video didn't work (and with 3GB the computer just keeps rebooting). Has anyone else seen this? Can it be a kernel issue? I don't have any problems when I use the vesa drivers. I'd appreciate any help.

ASUS F3SV-B1
GeForce 8600 GS
kernel 2.6.22-14.46

Default Re: Driver issue with more than 3GB of RAM?

I have 8GB of ram in this box and I am running ubuntu 7.10 also. I have a tyan S2915 board, dual opterons and dual 8800GTS cards in it and it has worked pretty much flawlessly since the 8800's came out. I don't think the issue is a ram issue related to the cards, it could be an issue with your motherboard or something else.

Talking Re: Driver issue with more than 3GB of RAM?

Thanks for the information. You got me on the right track for finding a solution. It was a problem with the way the BIOS was assigning memory for the video card. People on the Asus forum were having the same problem with linux and WinXP. Asus fixed the problem with their latest BIOS and after upgrading it's all good.
