Default Asus G2S A4 crazy colors

I am experiencing a problem similar to the one discussed in this thread.
The nv driver gives me a black screen and the nvidia driver gives me distorted colors. I am able to use the vesa driver.
I would by happy to provide any additional information.
I appreciate your assiatance.
