Hi
I have bought Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme for my QX6700 on a Asus P5B-E Plus. The fan is a Silverstone FM121. The temp. is 38c idle and 48c full load. Isnt it supposed to be lower before you overclock ? I cant feel any heat on the heatsink at all, so maybe the it has not the correct contact with the CPU, or can the heatsink turn in the wrong direction ? I have seen alot of screenshots of peoples rig with it on and sometimes the fan turns the way to GFX card and another screenshot the fan turns the way to the harddrives. I have tried to overclock a little without letting it get to hot, but I cant get it stable on arround 3.2 GB, I have tried Vcore up to 1.4 with multiplier on 12 and FSB 266, have also tried multi on 11 and FSB at 290, doesn it need more volt or ? |

Well theres no harm in trying another direction to see if there is any improvements. But the QX CPU's do run very hot more so underload, after all the 1x CPU cooler is cooling 4 CPU's.

My QX6850 at 3.6 with teh TT120 runs at 29 at idle adn 56 underload. I would suggest you try a different case. With my older Case it would run Hot. Switched to an Antec 900 gaming case and it runs alot cooler. It's a little cramped but it fits and stays cool. And those temps your running really aren't that bad.

BTW when I raise the multi to x11 it goes from the 2.66 to 2.93 and temps only raises 2c. Those who also have thermalright 120 extreme and the Silverstone FM121 how do you get the fan to be fastened on the heatsink ? |

I am happy with the Case it is just cramped when running SLI. And as for attaching teh fan, I just manufactured my own. There is no way those retail ones fit!!

You need to lap that 120
The base is engineered to have a convex shape you need to flatten it out.
