Enabling compiz on FC8

Hello,

I've just installed Fedora Core 8 and I have downloaded the latest legacy NVidia driver: NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.01-pkg1.run. I've installed the driver by going to console (init 3). But I can't enable desktop effects.

I receive error: "Desktop Effects could not be enabled".

Can you guys help me diagnose the error and/or enable compiz.

PS: I've also tried compiz --replace command but I loose all bars and can not move windows - no effects enabled.
Also tried livna drivers - same case.

yeah.

i had a 7050pv and get the same error. using driver:100.14.19 for Linux x86/x86-64 released with F8 i386.

make a mark and check later. I will install compiz fusion and try it tonight~

Running compiz all by itself will not be what you want.

Compiz only provides a window manager. If you want a window *decorator* then you need to have emerald installed.

You must start Compiz (or Compiz-Fusion, the name is the same) by using the compiz-manager command to get both emerald and compiz running at the same time.

It's actually simpler if you wait for the fusion-icon package to enter Fedora's repo. That will give you a nice tray icon to control it all.
