I just installed Quake 2 on my Linux box with GeForce4 Ti4400 video card. When I run the game, I can't change the screen size; it's stuck at 320x240 resolution in the upper right corner of my screen. I also can't change the rendering mode to OpenGL; it's stuck at "X11". I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed also. Do I have to set the resolution and OpenGL rendering mode at the command line?
Thanks for any info! |

If I remember it correctly you could set the driver using something like this: quake2 +set vid_ref gl (or the name of another driver).
I'm not sure which quake2 version and port you are using. I would recommend this quake2 3.21 based port: http://www.icculus.org/quake2/ |

Hmm, thanks. I'm using a version 3.20, which I believe I downloaded straight from Id Software's FTP site. Maybe I'll try that 3.21 version also.

It is not just the version number. What you might not know is that about 1.5 years ago the source code to Quake2 was released. Various projects improved the original Quake2 Linux port and added some new features (SDL support...). That's why I recommend it.
