Hi people,
My 6800GT idles at 70c and when playing HL2:ep2 reaches 107c!

I took it out and vacuumed the dust from the heat sink but didn't actually remove it.

Any ideas?

be concerned about anything over 92C

check to see the fan isn't dieing or dead
if you have an extra 80mm fan, ghetto rig it so it sits on top of the GPU heatsink and put it on full blast
that will tell you if its bad contact or if the fan is dieing

Thanks,
It does seem a bit high to play at 110c

Should I just get a VF900 and replace the fan and heatsink altogether?

no other game gets the GPU to these temps, I played Quake ET for hours and the GPU reaches 80c...

EDIT: Just read a review of the VF900 - it only seems to lower temps by 10c - still not good enough?
What's the most powerful Fan I can put there?

thanks,

The VF900! Yes, but that's 10' lower than stock cooling, not your high temps you're seeing now. Plus, your fan may be going out or there is still dust caked inside the fins of the heatsink around the fan. You won't know without taking the card out and removing the faceplate to look. At the very least, you could put your fan to 100% via Rivatuner and see if that helps.

Thanks, Good advice,
I decided to get the AC Accelero X1 - it's very cheap and seems the easiest to install. I'm also considering the evercool 2

I think you are right, my stock fan is on it's way out so any fan that works well will do the job

Just to follow up,
I installed the Accelero X1 and my temps are not 50c at idle and 65c at load - over clocked to the max (430/1050)
