Default Hardware Acceleration & IL-2 Sturmovik

Need some help here. I'm not completely sure if this is the place for this post. Anyway, I'm a long time Linux user. The PC in question has an Asus AN8X-X motherboard, an Athlon XP-M (mobile Barton) running at 200x11 overclocked, 1GB of Corsair XMS ram, and a new Nvidia GeForce 7600GS AGP card. Its dual boot with either WinXP or Slackware Linux 11.
I recently installed IL2 Sturmovik: 1946 and run it under Wine. My problem is low frame rates under Linux. I typically average 42 fps in WinXP at 1024x768, AA4x, AF4x, Stencil Buffer, etc. In Linux, the best I get is around 16 fps. I'm pretty familiar with the different IL2 settings, but, can't seem to get comparable frame rates under Slackware. I had been running the (non-stock) kernel with the nvidia 100.14.19 drivers and my fps were < 10. Dropping back to the stock huge26.s (2.6.17) kernel and the nvidia 9639 drivers get me up to the previously mentioned 16 fps. I've tweaked different settings to no avail. I did post this question on the Ubisoft forums. I haven't got many replies since most there run it under WinXP. However, one of the posts did mention its probably running under "software acceleration" and not "hardware acceleration". I'm running out of ideas here. glxinfo shows direct rendering enabled and I have the load dri sections in my xorg.conf file uncommented.
Can anyone please point me in the correct direction ?

I'm guessing that you're are looking at Wine performance issue. Can you download native quake3/UT2K4/etc demos and test them?

If you're getting acceptable performance under native games, I'd suggest you post a question in winehq appdb IL-2 section [1].

Firstly let me just say I got IL2 to run under WINE very easily, and the frame rates are at least as good as windows. I think therefore you do have a configuration isuue.

Firstly i think your xorg may be at fault - load dri should be commented

here's my xorg.conf

I've got no WINE library 'overrides', and it works whether the window is managed or not.

I hope it helps
