Man, i keep getting this reaaaally annoying network connection message about every 10mins...
![]() It pops up for like 2seconds, then disappears and the internet is back to normal... except it stops any downloads. I'm trying to download Qarl's Texture Pack III for Oblivion which is like 2GB, so about every 10mins it stops, grrr... I've ran adaware like 5 times, and I have no extra programs loading in the background - any idea how to track this down and find out what the problems is... I thought maybe I had a loose wire connection, so I checked the coax cable, and it's securely fastened to my modem and wall, cat-5 cable from modem to PC is also very secure? Thanks for any suggestions... any ideas? -V- |

Could it be your local cable company?

When the computer is booting, hit F8 until you get the boot menu. Choose "Safe Mode with Networking" from the menu.
Make sure your internet\network is functioning, and then try downloading something (your pc will run like crap in safe mode, thats normal). If you don't get the disconnects, then it was most likely caused by a driver, program or service that is starting up with windows. You'll have to do trial and error to figure out what exactly is causing it. If you do still get disconnects, it's either your network card drivers or your networking hardware (card, cable, router, modem, etc). There is a slim chance that it could just be something borked in windows, but I'm leaning toward one of the above.

Could be your NIC too, Had a brand new mobo outta the box doing that to me. Yanked it for RMA my previous board went back in and everything was fine. Ethernet cards, even onboard, go bad eventually.
It would only be your ISP if you have a direct connection to the modem and it's losing sync. Honestly sounds like your nic is going bad. Eventually it wont be able to hold an IP at all and you wont be able to surf anymore at all. |

I have had the same problem with an IBM T40 laptop. I basically have to disable/tweak some of the network cards and settings, it's rather annoying.
