Default Black screen installing 96.43 on linux 32-bit

Hi forum,

I want to try using the TV-OUT feature of the nvidia driver on my Dell Inspiron which this driver reportedly supports. I have a custom 2.6.21.7 kernel and have been using the nv driver for video until now.

When I install the driver using the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.01-pkg1.run script then startx I just get a black screen and have to revert to my previous xorg configuration.

I'm not seeing an error in my Xorg.0.log file. Can anyone say if this is a known problem? Also since this is a custom kernel can anyone say what, if any, kernel config requirements may be necessary that may be causing this driver not to work properly (even though nv does work).

Thanks.
