new video cards for me, what's stable?
ok, i have basically ascertained that nvidia no longer supports the 6600 series as far as stability when it comes to having 2 cards, and a dual-core intel based 680i system.
i need new cards, and from what i see from the latest beta driver, the only cards that are getting any kind of satisfaction on my platform are the 8000 series.
that said, i need some reccommendations. i am running the following:
MSI p6n diamond motherboard based on the nvidia 680i chipset
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz
nvidia proprietary driver v 169.04
gentoo system running kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r5
I would love to hear from anyone running a similar combo that has had luck with running 2 of 8000 series video cards in the $100-$200 price range.
i have had awful, frustrating, and consternating experiences with linux and the above setup with my 2 6600GT video cards (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=93110 for details), and need to switch to something more stable. if you have such a setup, and have had good luck without having to disable one of the cores of your CPU, i would love to hear about it.
