Default nvidia-settings doesn't find driver

Hi,

i have installed the latest version of the nvidia driver. X is running, but I like to alter some settings. Starting nvidia-settings it complains about not finding the driver.

Please start nvidia-settings from a terminal and paste the error messages it prints. Also, please make sure that you're not running the Xgl X server.
