Yeah, I agree with that as well. Metroid edges it out slightly, I think.
Having a blast w/ Mario.. I got it for Christmas as well, and I'm up to 74 stars now. The game just keeps getting better and better.. still amazing after 45-50 hours of play. I've played a ton of games during my life, but I would definitely rank it among the top 5.

Mario Galaxy is my pick for sure... I love metroid, but mario... it looks more like CG and less like "realism". I absolutely love it.

Some parts in Mario are downright gorgeous. I just finished the Melty Molten Galaxy (
) and it had lava balls thrown through the air with smoke trails and lava pools bubbling up all around me as I took off through the middle of it all on launch stars.
