when i enter the "xrandr -o left" command. i've added the "RandRRotation" "on" option to my xorg.conf file (also tried "True"). i'm using ubuntu linux 5.10 with xorg and the latest (7667) nvidia driver. i also can't see a "rotation" tab in nvidia-settings; i recall reading about it in older driver versions. was it removed, or am i missing something?

i'll appreciate any help on this issue.

Are you sure you added Option "RandRRotation" to the right section of xorg.conf? It needs to be added to either the "Device" or "Screen" section. You also need a sufficiently new version of X.org. It would be helpful if you posted a copy of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file exhibiting the problem.

I have a similar problem.
Using Gutsy 7.10 (latest build)
Installed the drivers using the Envy program (latest)
Go to the system> preferences> screen resolution .. screen and the rotate button is grayed out.
Have gone into xorg.conf and entered the line;
Option "RandRRotate" "True" saved it and exited .. re booted and still grayed out.
Am I missing something here?
(using an FX 5500 256 with a generic pivot enabled monitor (Flexus or GES Pure View .. no longer in business.))
