Thumbs up tech support finally got back to me

well tech support finally got back to me.
although they basically said notour problem its thiers.
so i still dont know how to manually change everything for the nvidia driver to work.
but they did tell me how to do it with YaST.
just do a online update and the driver is offered for download and also does the complete install.
without having to deal with the kernel..

so i feel like a real noobie now cause it ended up bein so simple.
Although i still would like to know how to do this from console..

as my ols microsoft teacher said "KISS baby KISS, keep it simple stupid"

thanks for all the help all

you need to get in touch with nvidia and see whats up they might send you the driver in the mail and give you instructions on how to do this from console. im still curious myself and would also like to know how to install nvidia the right way in console.
if you find out let me know.
im just a new guy on the block of linux
and you really should get an internet account
there r some for 10$ a month if you cant afford cable or dsl
without internet to do updates and ugrades i would be lost..

If you're using SuSE, I'm not sure. You can call them up asking for what they have to give you under the GPL (don't mention the nVidia drivers -- just say "hey, I was reading the license for this kernel thingy and it says I am entitled to the sources for it... where can I get them from?" or something), that might work.

Most other distros put the sources on one of the installation CDs. Mandrake, for example, puts it on CD 3 (or they did back in Mandrake 9 at least). You can install it from there, if you have ncurses-devel installed already (and a compiler/linker/whatever else). Linux From Scratch and Gentoo both have it installed by default, since both of those distros compile a kernel from the sources already.

On most other distros, look around on the CDs. Or on the distro's web or FTP site. If you can find the package, install it (actually, this goes for SuSE too, it just seems like it's harder for people to find SuSE's kernel sources for some reason).

Once you've got the package, use whatever distro utility is appropriate to install it. For an RPM distro, use rpm -ivh.
