I have a problem with my nvidia video card (GeForce 4 MX 420) in Linux (Slackware 8.0). The screen become black when i try to change X to console. I know that a lot of people had this problem, and i tried to use the methods exposed here and none worked in my machine. I would like to know if someone have an efficient solution to this problem. Thanks. my machine : processor: athlon xp 2000+ mother board: ECS video : GeForce 4 MX 420 distro : Slackware 8.0 with XFree 4.1 driver : last version nvidia driver |

Don't know if this helps, but I found that my ECS board was pumping out too much voltage to the AGP slot, causing the card to overheat whenever I changed screen modes. Since I dropped the voltage in the BIOS, it has not had any problems (but as a result my processor speed has dropped drastically...) This was a quick and easy solution for me, but it might not be a good one for you. Good Luck!
