I dunno about that. It's possible we're just not hearing much of due to Ninty being the current winner of the console race and fan favourite too.

I think we don't hear about it because...

1. The issue is MUCH more pronounced on hi def screens. I'd wager that the VAST majority of Wii's are hooked up to SDTVs.

2. Most people are using the composite cables that come with it, so even if it IS hooked up to an HDTV the signal is weaker and makes the problem less noticeable.

3. Most people aren't playing graphically intense games like Zelda or Metroid Prime. The Wii doesn't have to struggle as much for Wii Sports, Mario Party, etc. I don't know if the correlation between the more intense games and the appearance of the issue is a result of causation or coincidence, but it makes sense to some degree...

4. Most people haven't enabled 24/7. This is a known cause for many cases of this issue.

5. It's likely that the problem only arises in a certain subset of machines.

I had a early Wii with the 24/7 wi-fi thing on. After about 7 months I had that and they swapped it out. It's been fine ever since but I have the 24/7 off. I think that overheats something.

That logic doesn't fly. 360 was the leader of the console wars until Wii came along and had their flaws published all over the place. Nintendo hardware has been flawless for years. Microsoft and Sony both have questionable track records with gaming hardware (PS1 had tons of issues, 360 of this gen) but not Nintendo.

Can he try turning the 24/7 Wi-Fi thing off? I haven't had any issues at all with mine and don't have this enabled.

The Wii has had a number of reports of the 24/7 functionality overheating the units while they are off and damaging them. It is a known flaw in the software, however most people who have a wii (non-hardcore gamers), don't post around here.
Discolored pixels on the Wii, just like any other console, shows after damage has been done to the gpu or gpu memory, and leaving it alone will not fix it.

We all know about the 360, so there is no need to re beat a already dead horse. However, the number of problems being reported seems to have eased off a little over the last couple of months.

The PS3 from most reports seems to be the most reliable console so far, however it has not sold as well as the other two so there are less consoles to fail. In addition by all reports most of the power of the PS3 has been untapped, as the machine becomes more tapped, you can expect more failures to happen.

Mine are hardly noticeable on the standard composite cable. You have to look really hard to notice the flickering pixels. They are still there, but it can sometimes be chalked up to texture colissions like what was on the N64. However, we've moved into an era of HD, and corruption that was sometimes present on the N64 is no longer acceptable for this day and age.

Nintendo needs to fix this. If my next Wii comes back with the same artifacts as before, I will call tech support and tell them to report back once they've fixed this. Then I'm reporting this issue to every news network that I can.

Eh? That means that Nintendo IS the current leader. 360 WAS the leader UNTIL Wii came along. Do I need to explain that further?

None of that means that their current machine can't have problems now.
