Default Xorg 7.3 Segfault with nvidia

Hi,

I'm FreeBSD 6.2 with XOrg 7.3

I have a big crash immediatly when I launch startx with drivers .11 and .19
I only use freebsd ports except .19 I downloaded from nvidia website and installed it myself.

My Xorg.log

That error looks to be very broad in what could cause the problem. Here are some things you can try:
  1. Comment out options to see if they trigger it.
  2. What kind of mouse are you using? The last I checked moused did not support more than seven buttons. This is probably not the cause of the segmentation fault, but it could annoy you later. You can tell X to directly use the mouse. I have to do the same with my Logitech MX1000 by using /dev/ums0 and disabling moused (setting moused_enable and moused_nondefault_enable to "NO" in /etc/rc.conf).
  3. Test with the nv driver to see if it happens there. If yes, it is less likely to be related to the nvidia/nv driver.
  4. You may try to asking on freebsd-x11@freebsd.org to see if anyone else has seen problems with the X server unrelated to nvidia drivers. There is also an archive.

I'm using the nv drivers. It works with my mouse options.
So, I'll try freebsd-x11@freespot.org mail..
Thanks you

I don't know why...
What was upgraded, when you did a port upgrade? This information could help others with similar problems. Also has anything changed in your xorg.conf file? (try a diff of the 2 files).

segfault again !

I know why it worked.
Because, my upgrade erase the glx nvidia component. But I re-installed nvidia drivers, and now, the Segfault is back !

I'll post to freebsd-x11 mailing.

I know this post is a bit old but do you still get SEG-11 faults when building stuff?

If so I just went thru that myself. I have a AMD 2400 machine. It was overclocked a bit before i bought it. Fair enough the seller warned me. Took it home, fired up 6.2 install and installed everything complete with my nvidia-driver from the ports.

The segmentation faults started when I added my "nvidia 8600gts" and tried to get nv to load. Had issues so I came here and downloaded a driver. I changed to the untarred file directory and typed "make install" like the README says.

The faults started immediately. Never actually stopped in the same place even if I just kept running the "make install" command sequence. It would fail on this line or that and actually once it built successfully. I took the cover off my computer and fired it up again. This time it built perfectly.

That told me I had a hardware issue and the issue was likely the result of the overclock. So what I'm trying to say is segmentation faults show up when the system is under a load like when we are make installing or drivers. Either there is a problem with the hardware or it's overheating.

Usually it will happen regardless of what you are building and hardware issues are a bugger to find.

Hope that helps here.

At this time it still appears that Xorg will segfault when using Composite, running 6.3-STABLE and latest nvidia drivers in ports.
