Question monitor loses sync when quitting X

I recently upgraded my drivers from 1.0-3123 to 1.0-4363. The installation went without a hitch. However, now when I quit X, the monitor fusses about the sync being out of range and goes to "sleep". The system is still up and alive as I can type startx and up everything comes. The frequency range in XF86Config is correct and X runs just fine. It's when I try to get back to the command line that I have problems. I'm currently running an MX420 on Slackware 9.0. Anyone got any ideas?

I am having the same problem. I also have an MX 420, but I'm running RH 9 on a Dimension 4500.
