yeah the fact is that most of the time you won't be cpu limited at all. If they ran those tests at 1600 then you'd be seeing probably hardly any increase because it would be so gpu bound. Its why gpu is far more important for games

Have a look at Crysis its still cpu bound at a 1024x768 med qual, now that is a gpu *****.

Which is spending why more than $250 on a CPU is worthless.

They should be running Crysis at 400x300 with all settings low. Maybe then the tests wouldnt be GPU bound.

What's the use if it's not practical? If the 8 core setup gives the same FPS as my 3.2GHz Core2Duo at 1920x1200, then it's useless as far as I'm concerned. And somehow, I doubt that any of you do the sort of work that would actually make use of 8 cores.

For some rendering apps the 8 cores will help. i do some rendering at work.

If you check the comments on the HardOCP review of Conroe when it first came out, you'll see why review sites don't bother using real-world benchmarks on CPU tests. Nobody wants to deal with the ****storm that gets started when they do that.

Rendering apps yes. For example, this would be useful for my dad, who renders large uncompressed videos at 1080p and edits them and all that. For me, useless (as well as far too expensive).
