Default Re: Lost Odyssey

So I bought the game early last week on a whim, just looking for something to play other then WoW, CoD4. I didn't really get a chance to start playing it till Friday night...Saturday morning...Saturday afternoon...Saturday night...Sunday morning...(insert sleep here)...Sunday late night (up till 2am). Ugh!

The character development in the game has blown me away more then anything else, I actually feel some emotion towards them during many of the touching cut-scenes. It's a classic RPG storyline (take over world/save world) but like I said it's the characters that make this a great story which is what RPG's are.

I'm uhhh...currently on Disc 4?...heh yeah...I'm got a little carried away. I've been having to do some level catch-up though found a few good spots for that. I've got a few gripes, mostly concerning the fact that upgrading my staves for my casters only affects their melee attack (who does that?). And there are 0 good rings for casters, it's all melee-based effects.

There are some AWESOME boss battles though, however I've yet to completely wipe my party, there's been some hairy moments where I didn't get a heal or a cast speed-up on in-time and it cost me a good 4-5 turns of nail-biting. I like the turn-based system, but I'd also like to be able to quickly see (based on what I've selected as attacks/spells/skills) where a person will end-up. Instead it gives you a nice cryptic Turn Number & Position.

Some spoilers ahead (highlight to see):
Remember you can swap equipment mid-fight. I always keep someone equipped/skilled with HP & Element detect in my party. That way I'm not wasting mana on low HP mobs, and maximize damage if they are a specific element.

Once you get into Disc 2/3 you need to make sure you start using the damage sink spells (Cover/Covera, Barricade/Barricadus/All-Barricadus) on at least your front-line. There's a few boss fights where given the right casting order (always know who casts first on your basic spells) I basically didn't have to heal at all or very little. As with all FF Reflect is your worst enemy or your best friend, I've yet to get the Reflect spell, but I've had a few bosses use it, and I HATED IT!

If you are comfortable in a new dungeon (figured out the mobs, a good casting order, not having to use items etc.) then I suggest you farm it for a bit to build up your level/gold. Also about 1/2way through Disk 1 I started marking points of interest, that is points that I felt the characters gave "a lot" of attention, or statues/monuments I felt were out of place or seemed important but had no idea about. This has helped me immensely in Disc 4 which really expands your side-questing/gear-up abilities.

Cruising through disc 3...this I think has been my favorite disc so far. The story is breaking out now with CG all over the place as well as action.

Kaim's character has fleshed out big time..he's like a different man from when you first meet him. Jansen has come a long way as well but we know who's fault that is

Oh and Sed for president....

I hope you're right about the similarities because FF7 is my all-time favorite game.

He's pretty spot on, though FF7 isn't my fave of all time (FF6 is hehe), the game IS an old-school FF game through and through and it's clear from the people that made it that is what they wanted. Also there will be downloaded content available this Spring! W00T!

I did some more side-quests/treasure-hunting (man there's a lot) last night and got most of my chars to level 50. Almost have 200,000 gold too (<3 Sed), almost ready to start shopping @ the Auction House.

heh, for all of the crappy reviews this game got, everyone is loving it (with the exception of a few critics), but even some critics are using their heads now. Apparently IGN made this the game of the month topping Devil May Cry, lol.

Yup most reviewers seem to be putting too much weight on the title rather than content nowadays; if instead of lost odyssey the title would read final fantasy, it would have received a much better score! This game is almost better than FF XII! *spoiler*

Gongora looks way too stupid to be the bad guy though! He looks like some freaking village people figure....
Has anyone here been to the temple of enlightenment yet? Seriously that place gave my headaches! I think I battled the FU sorcerer for about 2 hours until finally beating him using that skill that causes damage according to your lost hp(most of my characters had 1hp and 9999max, so dealing 9000+ damage did the trick!). Didn't realize there was such a skill until 1 and a half hour into the fight, and I had already giving up when his helpers kept killing themselves restoring his hp fully!

Heh just you wait 'til you get to the kelolon village! A single sword is 30,000! And all the items for ring-assembly are almost all 2000 as well.
