Hi everybody

first: thank you so very much for providing such great driver even though they're closed source

next: some questions since I'll be getting a new nvidia-graphics powered notebook around mid / end of next month (Dell XPS 1330m):

- does PowerMizer in general work with linux and/or linux and amd64 ?
- if yes - how to enable it ? how to switch between powerstates (-> e.g. the ati-guys do this the following way: aticonfig --set-powerstate=1 (from 1 to 3 or more)

- when can we await coolbits (-> underclocking / overclocking support)

already exists you need to add

Option "Coolbits" "1"

to the device section of your xorg.conf ..
NOTE: coolbits does not support overclocking mobile gpus (but underclock should work)

It's enabled automatically. Afaik you can't change it manually, it's done automatically and nvidia-settings shows you the state.

I'm testing Coolbits right now on my desktop & it works really great !

I was also positively surprised by nvidia-drivers / nvidia-settings support for hdmi/dvi on the xps m1330,

I got another question:

has anyone already tried to underclock the 8400M GS (part of the Dell XPS M1330), I'm planning to do so,

hopefully you can say, which underclocking margin is safe to use

currently I've underclocked my 7600GT by 10% :

GPU: 560 -> 504 (10%)
Memory: 700 -> 630 (10%)

I hope that is OK, and can also be achieved with my laptop,
but first I need some input, that it won't damage the hardware

you know, when powermizer kicks in on my laptop (go7400) frequencies go from 450/700 (nv/mem) down to 200/400, or even 100/270. such tweaking is useless...

that's not enough for me

actually I was planning to even more lower the 2d/desktop clock settings, you tried that ?

the problem is: despite the big battery it only achieves 5.5 - 6 hours (not that much if you ask me) with plain openoffice writing & nothing else ...

Hi All,

i have got an additionally Problem.
My System is a Laptop Asus with Debian Etch and Kernel 2.6.24-stable
I have got a Nvidia Driver 169.09.

I want to underclock my nvidia Geforce Go 7600 too, therefore i enabled the
coolbits in the xorg.conf, but i can not set anything in nvidia-settings.
Does anybody have got a Solution?

you probably need to add the coolbits setting in another section of xorg.conf ...

I think so. I can play UT2004,Quake3, Planeshift, Vdrift,ET,Glest .... without Problems. :-)
