Exclamation suse 10.3 nvidia driver - corrupted gui

Hello!

I have a serious issue with 3D support for the NVidia drivers and Suse 10.3. After installing the driver the GUI goes garbled. I have tried many options, reinstalled few versions, tried the easy way, manually etc. I am stuck! Please help.

Suse 10.3 (32bit)
Inspiron 1520, 2G RAM
NVidia GeForce8600M GT, 256 RAM.

Xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
BoardName "GeForce 8600 GT"
BusID "5:0:0"
Driver "nvidia"
Identifier "Device[0]"
VendorName "NVidia"
EndSection

With this config 3Ddiag works fine but the GUI is garbled.

With the Driver is set to "nv" or "vesa" GUI is working normally but there is not 3D support. 3Ddiag says to change the driver to "nvidia".

(II)NVIDIA GLX Module 169.12 Thu Feb.....
(II)Loading extension GLX
(II)Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules.../nvidia_drv.so

I encounter no errors so far....

Take a look at the nvidia installer and the xorg.conf...
Any hints?!

The EDID of your display is broken :
(II) NV(0): Printing probed modes for output LVDS
(II) NV(0): Modeline "1280x800"x0.0 71.26 1280 0 0 0 800 0 0 0 (0.0 kHz)

I think you should be able to fix the problem if you provide a working modeline for 1280x800 resolution in your xorg.conf.

basically you have to extract the edid file from 100.xx drivers, and use it with the new driver

in opensuse, the line "CustomEDID" you have to copy it in the "Screen" section

I know, my english sucks xd

I have also tried the monitor to dell 1600x laptop display panel with no effects. The psychedelic GUI is still there.

dobro....

I have found how to extract edid files. The command is:
nvidia-xconfig --extract-edids-output-file=FILENAME

When the '--extract-edids-from-log' option is used, nvidia-xconfig writes any extracted EDID to a file, typically "edid.bin" in the current directory. Use this option to specify an alternate filename. Note that nvidia-xconfig, if necessary, will append a unique number to the EDID filename, to avoid overwriting existing files (e.g., "edid.bin.1" if "edid.bin" already exists).

Surprisingly it does not create an EDID.bin file in the local folder, it does absolutely nothing. No file anywhere.

However, before trying to extract the EDID, I did reinstalled the 100.14.19 driver. Resigned as always I tried to log in. Guess what?

THE GUI AND 3D IS WORKING?!?!?!

Do not ask me how and why. I am just a human engineer.
