Default 8800 GT problem

After installing Ubuntu 8.04 beta I start install drivers throw
System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers,
but after restart I get what you see in attached file bug1.JPG
I thought it was bad driver and download from nvidia.com new driver (with apt-get build-essential):
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-169.12-pkg2.run
And again the same situation.

In /var/log/xotg.conf I found one error:
(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

Please help!

Please read the sticky threads on how to report problems.

With a nvidia bug report (or at least a Xorg log file)
we could help you solving this problem.

Probably you just have mixed up drivers and libraries now,
because you should _not_ install drivers by hand on ubuntu.

Remove the manually installed and the ubuntu driver,
read the sticky thread on how to install recent drivers
on recent distributions, follow the instructions, try again
and if it still doesn't work: provide a bug report file.

I write 'nvidia' in xorg.conf, restart computer and while was these screen I made nvidia-bug-report.log and there are two attached xorg.log old (while these error) and new (as I understand with vesa driver).

Please help, I'll give all information you need.

Your problem is the restricted driver manager used in Ubuntu. You have two options,

1) Use the driver manager to install the NV binary driver....preferred if possible.
2) Read the sticky already pointed out to you on how to install it by hand. This removes or disables the driver manager.

Guys please don't beat me, but power cable was unpluged
All is working fine now
The only one dilema is what drivers are better to use? Drivers I installed by hand or driver goes with Ubuntu?

I recommend using the ones provided by the distribution, no matter what distribution it is.

If you have good reasons for upgrading to newer drivers
(e.g. not supported hardware):
feel free to do so, but please read the instruction thread
on how to install drivers manually.

I also recommend keeping the installer for easy removing
of installed-by-hand-drivers, as your distribution package
management is not aware of these drivers and wont remove them.
(but might install / update / overwrite them with conflicting
drivers)

In Ubuntu you can use envy as well for getting recent drivers,
but please read the instructions on the envy page
on how to remove them _before_ any distro upgrade.

If the drivers support the 8800GT as they don't in Gusty use those.
