ok if you use gnome then type :
Code:
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
or kde:
Code:
kate /etc/apt/sources.list
copy and paste the contents or add them as an attachement.

you might be having some repo problems

I tried with "kate /etc/apt/sources.list" and was asked to install kate using
sudo apt-get install kate
I did it and found
reading package...Done
building dependancy tree
reading state information...Done
couldn't find package kate

'cheked Syn Pkg Mgr and saw only a "espeak" under "kate"
Then I tried with gedit /etc/apt/sources.list & found..
Attached Files
File Type: txt sources-list.txt (4.1 KB, 118 views)

urgh....all your sources are commented out. Weird.

basically what you have to do is uncomment all the lines that start with deb.

so basically what you are doing is removing the # before the debs i.e.

Code:
#deb-src http://bd.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy main restricted
becomes

Code:
deb-src http://bd.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy main restricted
geddit?

after you have done that save the file

and then either press the refresh button in synaptic

or type:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
after that you can find the package I mentioned before from synaptic
