Default DDR3 Prices?

Anyone know where I can get 2 x 2Gb in DDR 3 that doesn't cost a mint? The set I was looking at on Newegg is 500usd. I want to try a 790 Ultra mobo and the memory is holding me back.

Why? I may be moving to SLi when the next big thing hits from nVidia. 790 Ultra looks very solid to me from user feedback at XS and from the reviews I seen.

By the time 'the next big thing' comes we'll be getting a new CPU socket from Intel. That's when i'll be upgrading next, anyway. DDR3 still too expencive for my liking.

Surely DDR2 1066 with tighter timings would be just a quick for a 1/4 of the price, no?

Yes its true until you get to the 1800+ there is no real advantage, but 780i vs 790i what would Rev do?

That is why I am making the move, 2-9800GX2's/new 24"/Q6600 back up to 3.8+Ghz with a 2185Mhz FSB here I come!

Yeah it bloody too expensive, I will wait until 2009/2010 upgrade my Q9450 to 32nm Westmere shrink of Nehalem and DDR3 will be much cheaper like DDR2 prices today.

I'm not at all sure on this but I don't think you'll get such a high FSB with a Q6600G0. Even if you could there's the FSB strap to think about. I know mine has one at 450Mhz and you have to go over 500Mhz to start gaining again. I sure wouldn't like to be running at over 500Mhz for every day use.

My two pence
