Finally, no more 7-year-old motherboard! I just stepped up to 2006!!

Sure, I jazzed the 'ol kt266 with a gig of ram, a 6800, and peripherals out the wazoo, but there was never any denyin' that it was like, uhm, the absolute bottom of the chasm that some fall into called "necessary downgrading".

Well now look at my sig...

Vista Ultimate's running pretty nice on it, and I'm happy with it. It's no C2D but dammit I worked hard to get back to having a "respectable" rig, lol... and all the parts are new or used so little that they don't even have the first layer of dust on them... I figured that wouldn't be the case when my Epox mobo shipped, but the sound the cpu made when it slipped into the socket, and the feel of inserting the video card and RAM gave me indications of "brand-newness"... I know I need an X-Fi and a bit more ram but ya know what, I think I'm good for right now.

Now to load up HL2 with the cinematic mod, Q4, and UT3... I think this rig can handle 'em... maybe I'll even pony up for some FarCry HDR action!!

(I can't help a bit of bragging... my birthday was yesterday which you bastards didn't even notice!!!1... I just got really good news about my situation after a PET scan I had Thursday, and ... yeah, I finally just pieced this rig together!!

Holy OC on the processor! I've never been able to keep mine stable above 2.6GHz.

I've since backed down to 2.5 during benching and burn-in, but I am confident after learning further things about this mobo that I'll be able to get back up there. I had one crash at 2.75, and I know now it was from 2 ram timing settings that I had not relaxed enough.

Yeah, as the days have rolled by, it's feeeling better and better to be out of the shadow of Socket A and NV4x. I just wish I could have gotten my RAID array working during my Vista install... I've been stuck at the 7200rpm 8mb cache plateau for too damn long.
