NVIDIA PROBLEMS WITH HARDY
my laptop model is dell vostro 1500 model..2gb ram intel 1.6 ghz nvidia 8400 model .when i tried to install nvidia drivers on hardy heron thr restricted drive manger it shown me a white screen of death ..so i searched in net and downladed NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.08-pkg1.run and tried to install it as specified(http://blog.gpowered.net/2008/04/fix...eron.html)..bt it is saying some header files are missing and some kernel interfaces are to be downloaded from ftp://download.ubuntu.com bt are not being downloaded("unable to connect to host" is the message) i hav full speed internet connection..
so can i download those interfaces and header files manually and run them??plz help

Please read the stickies, they solve many problems.
There is written what packages you'll need for a manual
install of the nvidia binary driver, kernel-header,
Xorg headers (-dev packages) and build-essentials (gcc, libc, etc.) ...
You can install packages with
sudo apt-get install <package name>
and search for packages with
sudo apt-cache search <keyword>
(of course without the <>)
