Default Intel wont let Nvidia, AMD, VIA & SiS make USB 3.0 chipsets

Intel invented USB 3.0 technology and will be use on Intel chipset boards only.

Well, if they developed it, they have the right to either license it or keep it exclusive to their boards.

I don't really care anyway. As far as I'm concerned, we haven't hit the limits of USB 2.0 yet. All I know is that if Intel keeps this mess up, I will not buy a board made by them, no matter how much faster it may be. I refuse to fuel the machine if I don't have to.

How long does it take to transfer 10gb with a usb 2.0 hdd?
"upto 4.8 Gbit/s by utilizing two additional high-speed differential pairs for "Superspeed" mode, and with the possibility for optical interconnect."
sounds good to me

But yeah, If they want it they can invest their own damn money ,or wait.

All companies are evil, You fuel the machine by using currency, Who makes the computers major companies use every day?
Even if you don't give them money directly doesn't mean you aren't part of "the problem".

Go live on a kibbutz

You have a point. External HDD's use up a lot of the 480Mbits supplied by USB 2.0, so an increase in speed would be welcome in that respect.

I still don't like Intel's business practices. Their gambit against Nvidia could really hurt this industry. Sure Nvidia's boards aren't as good as Intel's, but if you want SLI, Nvidia is the only player.

It would seem to me that "USB 3.0" is merely a name. Anyone can produce a faster design, so long as it differs to a degree from Intel's. What would it be called then...USB 3.0B??? That could start another fight that would only make it morre difficult to insure compatability between components.
