GTX 260. Great upgrade for 8800GTX users imo.

Am I the only one that thinks the GTX 260 is a great upgrade for 8800 users? I mean it runs rings around the 8800 and 9800 gtx cards and isn't too expensive especially after sell the 8800. Firingsquad sum it up nicely

Look at it from another perspective, the GTX 260 gets you 80-85% of the performance of the flagship GTX 280 for $250 less. NVIDIA’s got to stick to that $400 MSRP though in order for this equation to work.

Its very fast and a worthwhile upgrade imo as it wouldn't cost too much. As for the GTX 280, the 9800GX2 has spoilt its party and its far too expensive for what you get. Everyone seems to have forgotten the the 260 is a fantastic card in its own right.
Also looking at firingsquads numbers, an overclocked GTX 260 is almost as fast as a stock GTX 280. For $250 less its a bargain.

Yeah GTX 260 seem really worth to buy, I will wait until next week for more reviews and the cards in stock for around £300, it would cost me about £150 if I will sell my Geforce 8800GTX on ebay for up to £150.

Look like GTX 260 and 280 have massive headroom to overclock, Tesla C1060 use same core as GTX 280 with 240 streaming processors clocked at 1.3GHz core.

Not much of an improvement compared to the 8800 GTX which came out almost what, 2 years ago? Still though...new drivers will improve it somewhat in the future and it will pull ahead further. I wonder if the rumors of the die shrink are true. If so, I'll wait on that. My 7800 GTX is already really old, but I can wait.

What benches have you been looking at? I hope you are not just basing this off of crysis alone because the GTX 280 and 260 obliterates the 8800GTX in a lot of games and this is on launch drivers.

I know. As soon as the 260 hits, I am getting that. I can't stomach paying £450 for a graphics card. £250 is more sensible.

Screw Crysis, that fell off my radar right after launch. Most of the benchmarks show an improvement in terms of performance compared to the 9800GX2 except for Assassin's Creed. Compared to the 8800 GTX, yes...it's a good upgrade. Even better if you have a 7800 GTX. New drivers will improve things and help it take a bigger lead in the future, no doubt. For now, though...it's nothing groundbreaking.

I'll wait for the 55nm die shrink...this card runs way too hot.

People said the same thing about the 8800GTX yet I never had any issues at all with the temps. Good air flow in your case is a must and most people with temp issues are lacking in this area.
