ok i found this, looks like its the fix, i just need to figure out HOW to do it:

5-a-) If you see an error message saying "SAM MEDIA READ / WRITE failed and continued with Still waiting for root device" or something similar during the DVD boot, it means nforceata driver that is supplied on this DVD is not compatible if you used a SATA DVD Drive, which means you will have to exchange it with PATA (IDE) one.

5-b-) If it just says "Still waiting for root device" it is your SATA HDD, is not recognized due to missing DEV ICE id or incompatibility as the SATA DVD drive. Fixing this involves two installations and some editing, no direct solution unless you inject edited nforceata driver to the DVD.

so i could just swap out my SATA dvd burner, and plug in a old IDE dvd burner and that should work?

yea, id try swappin the burner first.

breathmetal, try setting your SATA hd to "legacy mode" in your BIOS. See what that does and let me know. I think you're facing one of the big nforce problems. Sorry man.

ok so i swapped my sata to a ide, it worked
but im running into new probs now

i get this at the beginning of the osx install:

its an error about the "basesystem.pkg.15961n8v4"

but it wont boot into it
it gives some boot error
but i can boot back into vista

Check insanelymac for the latest nforce drivers and kexts. I know we all sound like a broken record, but I think you're the only one here that I know if attempting an install with an nforce board. I know there's lots of folks at insanelymac with working nforce installtions. I just don't know much about it. Sorry man. Impressive that you've managed to get it up and running this far. I'm sure with a little more tweaking you can get it stable and working properly. I remember the first time I tried it out. I had know idea what I was doing and OSX was completely new. Get use to the word 'kext' and start figuring out how to use the terminal. If you've got some Linux experience your already ahead of where I was when I started.

So how is everyone's projects coming along? I'm curious on how it runs on other rigs.

BTW, I got another "blue" screen when I left it on over night. All sleep functions are turned off, so I'm guessing that it's the kernel or the NVIDIA drivers.
