I can understand some of you guys being irritated about the price but honestly some of the things that you and neckro are saying makes it seem as though you guys have never owned a high end video card from its launch date before and are completely unaware of what a difference optimized drivers can make so comparing a card with optimized drivers to a brand new GPU with unoptimized drivers is pretty unfair to be honest with you, after a couple of months if things have not improved much then you might have a legit argument but until then no one knows what the GTX 280 is truly capable of. You can say what you like about it but when it comes to high res with high amounts of AA and AF this is the card to have. |

![]() So how much did drivers help the GTX over the period of launch until now? 5%? |

The same thing will happen with the GTX 280 when more games come out that need the extra bandwidth and memory. |

The price of the GTX280 cards in Europe is around 500-550E for the standard models. The factory overclocked versions cost around 550-600E.
Do you think that these prices are going to be lower once ATi launches their new cards ?

ATM the GTX280 is about the same price as the 8800GTX was at launch in the UK (£430-440), but the 8800GTX held it's price for quite a while if I remember correctly. Where as the GTX280 will drop very soon it would seem. I don't think it's an unfair asking price, it's just we've been spoiled with very cheap cards for the last year, so it seems alot. It is almost double the power of the 8800GTX, I just don't like how it's been achieved.
It's still more than i'm willing to pay though . < £350 would be nice. |
