Hi,
I having problems getting SUSE8.2 to work. I can't get the Onboard NIC and Sound to work. If I have them enabled in the BIOS, then Suse freezes and needs a restart. It starts fine when they are disabled. I've downloaded the driver package NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.suse82.i586.rpm and have installed it using rpm -i <driver name>. When I then enable the onboard sound/NIC the PC freezes on a eth0 part of the boot. I've tried having them both enabled and going into Safe mode (which starts fine) and installing them but am still having the same problems when trying a normal boot. I would apprciate any ideas? Thanks in advance, MacScouse |

Looks like the onboard sound and nic are okay in safe mode. I can ping an external site.
What are the main differences between Safe mode and Normal mode? Cheers, MacScouse |

Several, but this specific problem is due to ACPI. Use either "acpi=off" (don't use acpi at all) or "pci=noacpi" (don't use acpi for pci bus irq routing) as a boot option.
