It's only a flaw of the engine if the engine doesn't allow shadow maps beyond a certain resolution / filtering / tiered shadow mapping / or other customizing of the shadow maps.

Did Gears of War have this problem on PC?

Yeah but not as bad. Then again GoW doesn't have as much dynamic self shadowing going on as Mass Effect.

fine here.

but im a little dissapointed in the game. the combat was poor. interface non intuitive, clunky animations, lots of loading screens, lots of poor textures, dissapearing corpses, barren worlds with not much to do, by the books enemy locations, annoying enemy movement. Also the story was ok but not as good as i was hoping it to be.

on the very last level now which is annoyingly difficult. but didtn take long to get hear and i did MANY of the side missions and has taken about half a weeks worth play or there abouts

I just finished it today. Overall I thought it was not bad. It does remind me of KOTOR with oddly a mix of Halo thrown in. I didn't think it was terribly long though, could have been a bit longer. I even tried doing most of the side missions. I think I may have missed one though. My personal rating would have to be about an 8/10.

Yea there are some pretty fugly low ress textures that pop in here and there...

Also the slow down on the citadel i think its an sli/xfire issue...it crumbles alot there..and the place is no different than outside the tower...inside seems like something heavy is going on..but nothing out of the ordinary...

Oblivion suffers from the same exact shadow issue. Glad it's an option that you can disable rather than losing the whole dynamic shadow effect like in Mass Effect.

It's pretty sad that if you didn't know any better and bought the game based on screenshots floating around on the 'net and official site, you'd get duped. Buying a game that doesn't even look close to what they're showing, pretty much. I know all developers are guilty of buttering up their screenshots with 100AA and 300AF with 13412424x 34535 resolution does wonders to make the game look great, but how many of us are always expecting it to even look close like what we see?

Although I applaud Bioware for even considering brining it to the PC, there's just too many weird things going on with this port for some reason.

But anyway, I'll lighten up the mood for a change.

Wait you can have dynamic shadows and still disable the crappy shadows that fall on the face?

Also since i played KOTR1/2...i am not impressed by the hype this game made -.-...Its an ok game so far..but nothing to say OMFGBBQ...like most reviews i read based on the xbox version...

Considering that that's who shepard was modeled after, it's not entirely scary.

Yup. Although it's not a complete fix, it's a lot more bearable now.

Go to where your config files are, and open up BIOEngine.ini.

Then under
[Engine.GameEngine]

find
DepthBias=.012000 and change it to DepthBias=0.030

Directly under that, you should see
MinShadowResolution=32
MaxShadowResolution=512

Change it to
MinShadowResolution=512
MaxShadowResolution=2048

Here's a comparison.
