To the people with overheating issues, what brand is your card? I ordered an eVGA GTX 280 SSC. I hope I don't have any problems with it. I read through some of the other threads but I didn't see the brand/models of the cards mentioned much.

My first 280 GTX with with the overheating issues was a BFG. I exchanged it for an EVGA; my EVGA is operating at normal temperatures.

My EVGA Superclocked is running fine so far. It maxes out at about 75 degrees under load and goes down under 50 degrees when idle. I'm not overclocking it that much yet. I'm not interested in damaging a $650 card to gain a couple of more FPS.

I have 2 evga ssc 280's use the precision control temps are great better than my 8800 gtx's where. I also have two 120mm side intake fans. Crysis runs great 1680/1050 high dx 10, runs smooth and fast.

well its strange because the very 1st time i used my card i experienced
issues similar to what others have described.. -my entire system just shut off initially.. i re applied thermal paste to my cpu because temps we a little on the high side, did some cable maintenance, ect.. now everything seems to be perfectly stable, including temps. i don't know what i did exactly, but i haven't seen it go over 100 again so that's really making me happy. i e-mailed e-vga tech support and the said my temps are within normal operating range for this card. -my temps are currently idle about 50, and under load it goes as high as 90, but never into the high 90's.. during crysis it's usually around 85-87, but hopefully that will all change in the next few days as im moving into a new air conditioned house! stuffy apartments are no good for gaming.. im pretty sure my card is fine, although something in me tells me to RMA just to be on the safe side... i just wish there was some clarification on this problem so all of us would know what to do.. or what not to do as the case maybe.. EDIT : then again if this is 'normal' for the 280 to be this hot maybe it's simply just time to invest in better cooling.. |

tbh the brand of card is pretty irrelevant as they are all reference designs atm?

I have the normal EVGA GTX 280 (602Mhz Core), but after running loops of Vantage while asleep for a few days I've finally started O/C'ing. Currently at 650Mhz Core with no visible increase in temps (74-78C Load in CoD4 - 1920x1080 4xAA, 8xAF - No Soft-Shadows).

Well, the SSC/FTW cards are tested and flashed to higher clocks before shipping out. It's unlikely that they have the overheating problem, it would have been spotted. Thus my reason of ordering a SC card, hoping it got a bit of testing before being sent out...
