This will give you a heads up of the life cycles of the MB and MBP. Looks like the MBP is in mid-cycle right now and won't have an update till probably late, late this year. But even if it does get updated, it will be something like a CPU upgrade or something small like that.

I really doubt that you would hear about a whole new MBP for another year at the earliest.

MBP has only been around for 2-3 years, even though I could see you meaning the "powerbook" design. Yeah, it could be sooner, but I doubt we will see anything until next March at the earliest.

Did you even read that AI article? They are always on the mark.

And what makes you think the refresh is in March? If you look at the MB/MBP product cycle, the average update is around 200 days. The last refresh for both was late February 2008.

I'd say if someone's thinking about buying a MB/MBP, wait until August or September timeframe for the Montevina Penryn(2).

I'm just going on a fast look at patterns with the MBP. Yeah, it's possible that updates could come around in the next few months. But oh well. I just say get it when you need it.

I was Mac-only there for about a year or two, but school and eventually the job required that I stay with Windows . . . until now.

I'm not sure if that hardware will work or not, but installing on another hard drive will give you a good test. Let us know how it works!

btw, nice to see a few OS X users around here

i think the video drivers are standard drivers for any card. all you need to do is select the nv driver that has the same amount of RAM as your video card.

not sure on the status of X-Fi. do you have an onboard card you could use?

slaWter, you should give it a go. It'll be interesting to see if the 280 works. Do you have onboard sound in case the Xi-Fi gives you trouble? If the 280 works you will probably slaWter (get it!) Mac Pros in Xbench which has a little GPU test.
