Its not, neckro is just upset because he already purchased a GTX 280 and now after seeing these benchies with a card that cost half as much he is ready to cry.

wow I certainly wasn't expecting that from the 4870. It almost makes me regret buying my 280 GTX. I mean only 10% less performance but less than half the price I paid. Competition is a great thing though, and at that price I will probably grab one and stick it in my second rig where I was going to put my 8800 GTX but it looks like that is going in the closet.

nVidia has to drop the price on the 260 though and maybe even the 280.

See neckro at least some can admit it.

I think it's fair to say the 4870 is on a par with the GTX260 +/- a few % and prices are gonna be similar. I really want to see 4870 CF against GTX260 SLI. (it's too late for me anyhow but it'd be interesting).

My first choice would be the 280 but the price is ridiculous. I was then going to go 260 but this 4870 is blowing it also at price/performance. Although I'd rather an NV based card, I hope the prices fall quick or I'll be going red also.

There's not that much in it...

I'm hoping the 260 will OC higher than the 280 because of it running a little cooler.

I think that given the results above,it's pretty much a given that the HD4870 X2 is going to walk all over the GTX280 and for less money too.

The worse that can happen is that there's no scaling with a game that's just been released, but even then you still get better than GTX260 performance from an HD4870X2,wich is a nice place to be.

maybe not in all test, but keep in mind that 9800GX2 has higher FPS in more then half the test then GTX 280 aswell.

4870 x2 will be competition to 9800 gx2, or nvidia might release gt200 gx2 by that time.

Well, keep in mind a few things though:

1:The performance gap between an HD4870 and the GTX280 is only about 15%.
2:Crossfire scaling from 1 to 2 GPU's is anyhwere from 50 to to 70%.(on supported games)
3:A single HD4870 easily beats a 9800GTX by a good 30~35%.
4:A 9800GX2 is basically 2 9800GTX's bolted together,but running at lower clocks.
5:An HD4870 X2 is basically 2 HD4870's bolted together too,but without clocks being lowered

So in all likelyhood, the HD4870X2 will not only outrun a GTX280 by a large amount, but even beat an 9800GX2 by a decent amount too, maybe even 30~35% there, since scaling on SLI and crossfire is pretty similar in terms of percentage gain overall.
