Will Radeon HD 4870 turn up the heat on the GTX 280?

Well, i do not want to buy another gfx card to run 1280x1024.

I need a card to upgrade to 1920x1200, but the actual GTX280 isn't still enough for my personal needs, so, i'm not buying it.

So, i'm doomed to 1280x1024 again.
