Where are the GTX260's?

I am wanting to get a GTX260 but where are they? I thought the release date was the 25th of June but newegg.com, compUSA etc etc don't have any in stock. Anyone know whats going on?

The GTX 260s may be sweetened by their OCs. If they can get to 700 like many GTX 280s seem to be doing. We don't know what the max OC for the 4870 will be and it may have a smaller range. Both [H]ard and Legitreviews only got +30MHz on the core with their HD 3870s. By contrast [H]ard got a +94MHz core bump on the 260 they tested. That gave them +7FPS @ avg 1920x 2xAA|16xAF in AoC. They only got their GTX 280 to 675 and that's still 73MHz over stock. We will see as user results start to filter in.

Also for both the GTX 280 and 260-

Looks like PhysX is going to have a larger impact in the near future-

"We also spoke with Brian Burke (Senior PR Manager) and Roy Taylor (Vice President of Developer Relations) on the phone and they had a ton of things to say about PhysX and were obviously all for it. They were happy to announce that 14 to 16 new PhysX game titles would be available before Christmas and double that next summer."

Other nice things about getting a 260 (or any other nVidia card) would kick in if you buy one from XFX or Evga.

If you get it from XFX you may transfer your lifetime warranty to another person. If you resell your cards when you are bored with them or to feed another purchase this fact will build value to your buyer. Aka you get to ask for a higher price. Other cards have their warranties voided when they leave the orginal buyers hands.

Evga have Step-Up so if nVidia release some uber card within 90days of your purchase you may trade in your card and pay the difference.

Both companies officially support overclocking, so you don't void your warranty by doing it. Both companies offer lifetime warranties. Both companies support users replacing their HSF without voiding their warranty.

Yah I'll buy one when it hits $349 then it will be worth it against the 4870. More memory and Physics for $50 seems about right.

From the benchmarks I've seen, I'd say that depends on what you play.

Unfortunately, or fortunately because I have a life, I have to pick and choose the games I play. Right now I'm playing Age of Conan. If the benches at HardOCP are accurate, even the GTX260 smokes a 4870 on AoC. So I'm going to go with the GTX 260/280.

Price is less of an issue for me than simply wanting the game to run the best that it can.

I am really wanting it just to play Crysis at high detail on 1680x1050 res. From what I have seen it will run any other game I will play fine. Some of the games I play are CoD4, Bioshock, Gears of War.
I have just been informed I won't have my GTX260 until Wed next week. NZ sucks for getting stuff on time. Really tempted to get a 280 as they have them in stock, but the price is just too much for me .

If your interested I got my GTX260 today and I have the same processor as you - an E8400. I did a couple of before and after checks with Crysis's inbuilt benchmark - previously I had a 8800GTS 640MB model.

With the 8800GTS:
Crysis 1900X1200, High Quality no AA - 17.52 average FPS
Crysis 1680X1050, High Quality no AA - 20.97 average FPS

With the GTX260
Crysis 1900X1200, High Quality no AA - 32.4 average FPS
Crysis 1680X1050, High Quality no AA - 35.3 average FPS

(Running in Vista SP1)

So for me, in Crysis at least, the GTX260 seems to be a significant improvement. (Futuremark's 3D Mark Vantage score was doubled from 3600ish to around 7600.)
