Came here awhile ago to get some upgrade advice and it turned out fairly well. So being the not so creative person I am, I'm back here again for more.
This time I want to buy a completely new system. I've got 3000 in green. If you had 3000 dollars and wanted to buy a new system, what would you guys get?
I would prefer suggestions to be more in the vein of "Fastest performance with stock stuff" vice, "this old gizmo can go faster than that new widget with these o.c.'s". I'm not necessarily tech deficient, but I am lazy... and do not oc very much. Ergo I like raw horsepower.


FYI, don't know if these can help in some way as two auxillary video card helpers, but I do have two 8800 GTS Alpha Dog's laying around, but the only way I would use them would be helpers to a newer GPU.

The fact is that the difference between a 3000$ computer and an 1000$ right now isn't huge(unless you like to play video games at a very high resolution).

I'd say that you have three options:

1st

Intel QX9770 CPU
3x280Gtx
EVGA 790i Sli Motherboard
4Gb DDR3

2nd(this is the one I would go for)

Intel Skulltrail
2xIntel Xeon DP X5450
4Gb DDR2 Buffered memory(unless you are teh Bigman)
2xRadeon HD 4870 CF

3rd

Intel QX9770
DFI LANParty UT X48-T3RS
4Gb DDR3 memory
2x4870 CF
Phase Change cooling

I strongly disagree with spending any cash on Extreme processors at any given time, no matter how deep your pocket is. QX9770 vs Q9550 / 3.2Ghz vs 2.83Ghz / $1469 vs $549... I mean no way, obvious waste of money for nearly 400mhz...
