Default Re: HD 4870 vs GTX 260

I believe they BOTH great cards.

We still have about couple NVIDIA fanboys here who didn't get it. The NVIDIA big price reduction only proves the ATI 4000 series are big competition , they sure know better.

I purchased the HD 4870, the price at the time sure was one the reason but the biggest reason was there is not going to be any SLI for Nehalem CPU on the X58, Intel's First Nehalem Chipset.

I like to upgrade to Nehalem by the end off this year, might never have a need for 2 video cards but sure would not like to have that option closed.

Filters. This was discussed at B3D.com. The 4850/4870 have more filters than the 260/280 does and thus take less of a hit going from 4x to 8x. It is filters that caused the R6xx line to tank when movin from 2x to 4x AA where as the G80/G92 suffered little to no hit. Nvidia left the filters alone going from G80/G92 to G200 where as ATI increased theirs a great deal going from R6xx to R7xx.

That's why I think it's better to place more emphasis on an average, because over the course of the benchmark it will factor in the entire range of frames where the minimums took place. This would exclude cases where a driver/card had a certain hiccup that may have caused an abnormal hitch/minimum for a very short time.

This should help some as they actually play the game and not run canned benches or walkthrus that have zip. zerp, zilch bearing on real gaming play like AAT.

Very first reason why i would never get any ATI card is CCC garbage.

That's very interesting, and i think Nvidia will make sure to release GX2 so people are able to have SLI setup on the X58 chipset. Intel move is really gay. Afterall Nvidia might let people run SLI on Intel Chipset. It's not matter of hardware problem but to unlock software. I wish Nvidia can make CPU somehow. I bet that CPU would smoke Nehalem big time.

Damn sight better than the Nvidia control panel honestly

If you want to be a fanboi and scream about how much something sucks, perhaps you should pick on something else. There is nothing wrong with the CCC.

I agree, the CCC is pretty cool with the preview window. Very intuitive IMO.

Loads up slow, totally not intuitive, that sucker eats incredible amount of memory and profile manager in it just sucks. Nvidia control panel is the best i have seen in the last 15 years.
As far as forceware Nvidia should integrate nForce drivers, Geforce drivers, ESA (former nTune), and Physics package into one. Also Physics options should show up inside Control Panel. Also they should add real time system update, so you don't need to reinstall drivers everytime but it updates itself. Also they should add nvtray icon on taskbar for easy and quick access.
Other then that everything is cool. Also as far as Nvidia System Monitor, to have feature to display temp and other good things through G15 keyboard LCD panel so i can get rid of Everest.

If you install nForce drivers after installing Forceware, the drivers add controls to the NV control panel. You can even just install over your existing driver package to get the controls.

Screw ntune, that's garbage. And, I would assume that, if PhysX needs controls, it wil add to the CP once released for most cards.

When was the last time you used CCC? I was one that hated it before, but now, it is MUCH better. I like it MUCH better than nvidia's control panel. But its just that...I LIKE IT BETTER...doesnt mean that you cant like nvidia's better. I have noticed that nvidia fanboys are very touchy these days. Wonder why :P

The biggest problems with the 4800 series seems to be drivers that are still in a beta stage. I bet there is a lot of room for improvement there.

Also, CCC and NV Control Panel both suck compared to Nhancer. ATT isn't too bad, but it still doesn't fully support the 4800s.
