I never was a fan of DoD: Source, but I'll play it a little later to see if there's any reason I should be playing it now.

DOD would obviously lag on a 8600, as it also lagged on a 7900gtx often (with higher settings).

DOD:S is fine, especially with the new stuff.

I've been playing it MAX Settings at 1680*1050 with a T7300 and a 8600m GT.
( AA = off and AF set at Tri)

Now I can't cause valve decided to cause smoke to lag things out. Lame move Valve.

Just to let you know you don't need a clunker desktop to play games now days.
But you do for DODS now I guess.

Update: Consumer wins!

There's more to the update than smoke. Are you playing with motion blur?

The game is fine for me. No stutters, smoke lag, nothing. However, I still don't play it very often. There are better Online FPS games on the market (see: TF2, Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2, etc. )

btw, I'm playing it @ 1920x1200, 4xaa, 16xaf, other settings maxed.

No smoke lag for me. Plays good. Bought it because it was fairly fun and only $5

The thing I dislike the most is how unappealing the kill cam is compared to TF2. The player models and facial expressions in TF2 make kill cams vastly more entertaining than they are in DoD, which simply uses a bland, static face texture. At least you can see more easily where you were killed from, though.
